Live a Life Driven By Intention, Not Pain

There’s a lot of pain in the world right now, a lot of anger and unrest. Adults are fighting with each other constantly. Everyone seems divided. What if a lot of problems aren’t getting solved because we’re coming at them from a childish perspective? We all have a hurt child within us, one that’s still stewing in pain from the past. It’s only when we confront this pain and heal the child within that we can move forward and live a life of intention.

On a recent episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sat down with Jason Garner, author and former CEO of Live Nation. We had a very candid conversation about expectation vs. reality. Jason grew up in poverty, with a single mom who worked multiple jobs day and night to make ends meet. They lived in a trailer in a desert, with Jason selling sticks of gum to afford hot lunch at school. It wasn’t long before he equated money with happiness. “I looked at the pain my mom was in, and I couldn’t see any deeper than the money,” he expla…

MEET KAYLA REYNOLDS, MS Kayla Reynolds is a late-twenty something New York City transplant, originally from Montreal, Canada, and the co-leader of Badass Lady Gang’s NYC chapter. When she’s not dancing with her BALG, she’s working on checking off walking every street of Manhattan by foot, exploring one neighborhood at a time, and determined to find NYC’s best cold brew and restaurants along the way. As a child and eventually teenager, Kayla joined every team sport imaginable, and cheerleading quickly became her passion. Growing up very active and also experiencing many digestive issues, she became interested in nutrition and the impact that food had on the way she felt and performed. Paired with her love of all things science, she eventually chose to move to NYC to pursue her Master of Science in Human Nutrition at Columbia University. It was there, alongside her own life experiences where she realized that the food that made it to our plates is only a sliver of the health equation. Over time, her passion for mental health and wellbeing grew, and she began to see our “diet” as more than just food, but everything that we consume -- social media, advertisement, relationships, self-talk, … and so much more. Now, when it comes to nutrition, she believes that our thoughts about food, our bodies, and ourselves impact us more than any one food we eat (or don’t), and that having a healthy, balanced, low-stress relationship with food is most important. Food doesn’t need to be so complicated. So, she’s dedicated to helping people ditch diet culture and lead full, fulfilling lives, which can’t happen on an empty stomach. Ben Greenfield Fitness: Diet, Fat Loss and Performance
Ben Greenfield Fitness: Diet, Fat Loss and Performance
The Croissant Diet, Wine Fasting, Oodles Of Pork Lard, Keto Bricks & Much More With Brad Marshall.       My friend Ron Penna recently emailed me about a guy named Brad Marshall who...         "...has a fascinating take on why we get fat called the ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) Theory of Obesity and how ROS signaling as a result of eating saturated fats is critical for satiety. Provocative stuff and the more I read the more I'm pretty sure he is onto something. Joel Greene thinks Brad is crazy on this point but I have a feeling he will end up being right on most if not all of it. You can read more here: "         Essentially, our entire meat supply (pork and chicken especially) is much higher in polyunsaturated fats than they should be and the only real way to change it is to change what we feed them. .  He also has been working on . It has to be wrong but he makes VERY interesting arguments about it."         Naturally, I just had to get this guy on the show. Brad Marshall is the author of the Blog and the creator of .  Mildly obsessed with food and its history, his work focuses on trying to place current ideas about diet, including keto and carnivore diets into the framework of traditional Dietary patterns.  For instance, the French diet before 1970 combined flour, sugar, butter and wine and the population was lean.         Brad wrote which posits that ROS generation in the mitochondria of fat cells could provide the mechanism that explains why a traditional chinese peasant diet - low fat with 85% of calories from starch; a French diet combining butter, wine and flour and a modern keto diet could all be expected to produce leanness but combining flour with polyunsaturated fats is a recipe for obesity.  The core idea comes from the Protons thread of Peter Dobromylskyj's blog .  Brad tested this hypothesis with his dietary experiment The Croissant Diet.         Brad is also the founder of , which is dedicated to producing pork and poultry products that are low in Linoleic acid, the n6 polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) whose intake has seen a dramatic worldwide increase in the last century.  Animals cannot make PUFA and so we can create pork and chicken that is nearly free of them.  You are what your animals eat.       Brad has a genetics degree from Cornell, a certificate from The French Culinary Institute, has studied cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center and worked as a programmer for the Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project.  He spent the last 15 years raising rotationally grazed pastured pork on his farm in upstate New York while running a butcher shop, local food restaurant and USDA inspected meat processing facility. During our discussion, you'll discover: - Brad's background in molecular biology and cooking...8:00           - The production Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) - and the ROS theory of obesity...18:43           - Unsaturated fats vs saturated fats in connection to ROS production and satiety...34:25         -What does all of this have to do with croissants?...44:45           -The Croissant Diet - getting specific...58:25           - Should we worry about endotoxemia with a diet high in saturated fats?...1:03:45           -The Wine Diet...1:09:30

Whitney Miller: Having Great Sex & How to Map Your Vulva
Do you wonder how your sex life can improve our relationships– with others and with yourself–either in a monogamous, a polyamory, or an open relationship? In this conversation with Whitney Miller, we talk about the dynamics of monogamous vs. polyamory relationship, we go deep into details of sexuality within relationships and we discuss a very interesting pleasure exploration technique of the vulva: the vulva mapping. In her past polyamory experience, she shares what she learned about herself to be able to thrive in it, namely understand why she got jealous, why she got sad, and how she was able to cultivate meaningful relationships with women by having to constantly have vulnerable conversations which allowed her to truly love the other women. Often, relationships help us to open up a part of ourselves that needs to be exposed in order to heal and to know ourselves better: our thought processes, our patterns, and how we respond to challenges. Whitney tells us how deeply transformative this process was in her open relationship with Audrey Marcus and how that forced her to profoundly dive into herself. She shares with us intimate details of her preferences with candid honesty, so if you are dating or looking to date women this could be a key to understanding what might arouse and please a woman before and during sex. And it’s not at all just about sex: asking the other person meaningful questions is likely to be a skill that enables them to open up. Whitney also tells us what are her own favourites questions, what she finds attractive in a man, and how playfulness is so important. Whitney is a love, sex, and relationship coach: an expert in the realm of union between partners and sexuality. Former Miss United States and sports anchor Whitney Miller has found her true calling helping individuals and couples. Her experiential journey to self-mastery started 5 years ago with her well-publicized open relationship with her fiancé, Aubrey Marcus. Whitney has since joined forces with some of the leading scientists and researchers in the field, and now hosts talks and workshops around the world. What we discuss: [00:04:47] Letting go of how Whitney thought life should be has been making her more open to change. [00:05:50] Where Whitney's need for protecting herself comes from. [00:07:09] What permitted the sensation of safety to let people in Whitney's life. [00:08:34] Why the relationship with Aubrey was fundamental to Whitney's self-discovery. [00:09:09] How we receive superpowers and faults from our parents and our relationships. [00:10:42] Why Whitney thinks there is usefulness in suppressing emotions. [00:11:48] Whitney's latest Ayuashca experience showed her to go over one fear in particular. [00:14:39] Making it through life instead of living life: "If you let out what is within you, it will heal you. If you hold it in, it will destroy you". [00:15:57] Qualities in a man that are attractive to Whitney. [00:17:18] What was attractive in Aubry from Whitney's perspective. [00:19:06] Why Whitney and Aubrey were sincere about the constraints of their polyamorous relationship. [00:20:31] What Whitney feel she learned from her experience in a polyamorous relationship [00:21:39] Is polyamory sustainable and does it have longevity? [00:24:27] Whitney's present terms of relationship preferences. [00:29:38] How does a man show he holds the qualities of stability and safety? [00:32:11] Is it possible to hold a certainty about the relationship course? [00:33:21] What is the process of stepping back and re-access in a relationship? [00:35:59] Whitney's experience in relationships in which one partner goes through change and the other isn't [00:38:07] What good sex means for Whitney. [00:46:14] How does a woman want a vulva massage? [00:46:55] What is vulva mapping and how to do it. [00:48:25] Butt play and anal sex. [00:51:45] What is the perfect set up for sex?
