Play • 47 min
Sandy McDonald has been the Director of the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) since May 2013. Mr. McDonald has an expansive vision of economic development for all of Broward County, centered on an entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to small business success, as well as a renewed sense of partnership with the County’s 31 municipalities and its Municipal Services District. OESBD has as its core functions economic development for the County and the oversight of local and Federal implementation of small business programs. Mr. McDonald champions opportunities for small businesses through developing, implementing, and monitoring these programs. OESBD provides resources to position businesses in growing beyond Broward County with an emphasis on creating capacity and encouraging international trade. With programs like a new mentor-protégé initiative and an enhanced effort to work directly with city-level economic development efforts, OESBD and the County are poised to continue improvements seen of late in economic development. Prior to joining Broward County, Mr. McDonald worked for 13 years in Community and Economic Development on both local and federal programs. His expertise includes initiating tax increment finance programs, brownfield redevelopment, small business development, and disadvantaged business enterprise.
