Wondery Presents: THE APOLOGY LINE
Play • 7 min
If you could call a number and say you’re sorry, and no one would know…what would you apologize for? For fifteen years, you could call a number in Manhattan and do just that. This is the story of the line, and the man at the other end who became consumed by his own creation. He was known as “Mr. Apology.” As thousands of callers flooded the line, confessing to everything from shoplifting to infidelity, drug dealing to murder, Mr. Apology realized he couldn’t just listen. He had to do something, even if it meant risking everything. From Wondery the makers of Dr. Death and The Shrink Next Door, comes a story about empathy, deception and obsession. Marissa Bridge, who knew Mr. Apology better than anyone, hosts this six episode series.

Scorched Earth: Chris Watts and the Family Annihilator
In the summer of 2018, the whole country was riveted to the story of a young, pregnant mom named Shan’ann Watts. Shan’ann and her two little daughters, Bella and Cece, went missing from their comfortable Colorado home one morning. And as the story unfolded, it became increasingly obvious that Shan’ann’s husband Chris was responsible for their disappearance. As bad as we all thought it might be at the time, we had no idea how bad it really was. Turned out, Chris had murdered his wife and two daughters, in pretty much the most appalling way imaginable. The Chris Watts case has been a national obsession ever since, but Chris is by no means the only example of this kind of horror. There have been many others, and sadly, there will probably be many more. And when we start to unravel these cases, a chilling pattern begins to emerge. What could possibly motivate a person to murder their whole family? #127 The Killer Clown of South Florida
Just after breakfast on a warm, May, day in 1990, a white convertible Chrysler LeBaron pulled into Marlene Warren’s driveway in Wellington, Florida and a clown emerged. The clown, an apparent messenger dressed in a clown costume, complete with an orange wig and rubber nose, holding balloons, walked up Marlene's driveway to the entryway and rang the doorbell. Marlene Warren answered the door. She said, "How Pretty!" The clown then handed her the balloons, pulled out a gun and shot Marlene in the face, she died two days later... https://www.analuisa.com/creeper Patreon.com/truecrimeguys Merch: truecrimeguys.threadless.com OhMyGaia.com Mohave High Creations truecrimeguys.com Facebook Twitter/Instagram: @TrueCrimeGuys @AndImMichael @sandupodcast Patreon.com/TrueCrimeGuys STICKERS CREEPER MERCH Sources: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/true-crime/wp/2017/09/27/any-murders-horrific-it-doesnt-matter-whether-youre-wearing-a-clown-costume-or-not/ https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20191122/woman-accused-of-dressing-as-clown-killing-loverrsquos-wife-in-wellington-now-set-for-spring-trial https://www.officer.com/investigations/forensics/evidence-storage-equipment/news/21204997/evidence-may-not-prove-woman-dressed-as-clown-killed-wellington-mom-in-1990 https://www.wpbf.com/article/new-evidence-in-wellington-killer-clown-case/32911331 https://www.capitalgazette.com/fl-pn-killer-clown-case-profile-20170929-story.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSSQuVPrrLY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbTUqUGWPbk

Aspen is a ski-resort town located 13,000 feet up the Rocky Mountains. At one point in time, it was a silver mining town but now, it is a magnet for the wealthy. Nestled among a picturesque mountain and lakes, the average home price in Aspen is around $5 million with at least 50 billionaires owning a home here. In the 1970s and 1980s, Aspen had a reputation for cocaine-fuelled excess but since then, its reputation has drastically changed and it has an extremely low crime rate. However, in 2014, a wealthy Aspen socialite was found dead in her expensive home, sparking an exhaustive investigation, the outcome of which would come as a complete shock to the entire area. Elizabeth Barraza
"It was very quick, it was very calculated, very cold-blooded (in) how it was done... I do believe that more than one person was involved in this..." On the morning of 25 January 2019, 29-year-old Elizabeth Barraza was gunned down in her own driveway. Her husband, Sergio, had departed for work just four minutes earlier, and Elizabeth - who had begun preparing for a garage sale - had called out for work that morning. In the two years since this bizarre and tragic act of violence, investigators have publicly theorized that this was either an incredibly personal crime or a professional hit. However, there seems to be no ascertainable motive for anyone to have targeted Elizabeth...
