attic ventilation what happens here this time of year in Austin it gets hot in our homes and it's because of the sun for the most part and because of the basic just all around heat that comes off of the sun it radiates off of everything the attic is the hottest part of our house he's got a great product it's a solar attic fan and this pulls the heat out of the attic to allow us to be more comfortable in our home it saves us money and it keeps our house healthier with that I'm going to introduce my guest Tom the attic fanatic Thomas good to see you it's good to be here thanks for having me absolutely it's hot this time of year here in Austin why doesn't every roof have a solar attic fan answer that question for me the builders put them in right well two reasons we haven't got to all the houses yet OK we're working on it we're trying to get them all done house by house and then yeah a lot of times the builders so we have this conversation on time with builders and like if I have to put ten more dollars in a house and I build a 1000 houses a month for a year it's you know it just adds up so they kind of cut corners wherever they can and they're like you know at the end of the day we're not paying the electric bill for the homeowner it's their problem let them figure it out so they're really more worried about houses house look meet building minimum building code and that's it they're good to go houses sell I mean they like well we can't even keep up we sell houses we have 100 houses sold we night we can't even get them built so we're good so they don't really care about the homeowners so much as we do is looking at the attic temperature so we specialize in attic temperature adding ventilation it's all about air exchanges per hour get more air flow through the attic and keep the attic temperatures down and when you do that you'll lower the energy cost of the home because your exercise running less that's how you save your energy the less the air conditioner runs or the less hours in a day so if it's running 15 hours a day and we can get it down to one or two running say 11 or 10 or 11 hours a day well then you just save 30% on your cooling cost so that's how you save energy and it's pretty simple nice muscular font doesn't cost anything to run so when you lower the edit temperature that's free to do doesn't cost money to run that fan or a couple of them but then you get all the energy savings so that's why they're so valuable and you get a 26% federal energy tax credit with solar ventilation so it's a lot it's a win, win, win situation and it's relatively painless as simple to do our installations take about an hour it's not like it's a big long project call us up we'll come out we'll do the evaluation we'll look at your add and see if it's a good fit for you for the house if it is and we get it scheduled and usually within just a week or so we have it installed and like I said it's a one or two hour installation it's a secret in plain sight meaning you can see it when you drive by a house right but it's a secret in that many people don't know it exists and that's one reason why I have you on my show Tom is to expose the secret let people know that there's a way for them to save money be more comfortable and they're saving money not just something electric bill like you were talking about because it reduces the runtime on the AC pretty much that simple but also roofing shingles the air conditioning system inside the house you know it'll last longer it lasts longer yeah if you look at the air conditioning side if it's 130% less probably going to get 30% more life out of this wear and tear plus you've got it in a cooler environment so nothing kills motors and things more than heat so the lower the heat load like you're saying with the shingles the longer the shingles are going to last the longer the air there's going to last less mechanical breakdowns less repairs you're going to be doing throughout the year on your air conditioning system you know a lot of people say you know me I'm always put money in the air conditioner just keep fixing it it's like you know if it was in the cooler environment it would make a big difference and like oh wow I never thought about that so it does make a big difference absolutely I'm going to give out Tom the addict fanatics the number from Austin solar attic fans it's be doing for them or if it's not you it's Pete when you come out to their house so we'll come out we'll look at the attic so we're really you know specializing the ventilation of the attic reducing the add temperature we're going to look at the intake yourself advancing make sure that the vents are clear that we're actually getting enough air through the soft gets into the attic space and then we'll look at the exhaust side that's where the solar fans come in we're going to actually look at where how much air do we need to pull out of the attic is it do you have the turbines Ridge vents how bad is the ventilation that's in there if it's terrible we may recommend say two fans if you have some decent ventilation and you're looking at this kind of as a as a booster for the attic then maybe we would recommend one fan and we do different size fans too so we do have the 30 Watt fan is our most popular so that's the one we have a special we're running on today but we do have specials on the on the 25 Watt and the 70 Watt fan so there are some different options. We also have Gable fans so if it's a Gable situation so we really just need to come out and kind of look evaluate the roof and the just the way the house is built and look at your insulation kind of see you know if you have low insulation we probably want to you can either add more insulation but really you probably just need to really get the added temperatures down because the lower the attic temperature is the less insulation you really need to hold that heat back so we find that actually most houses are actually pretty well ventilated or insulated it's the ventilation part and they're just asking the insulation to hold back way too much heat and that's why a lot of people think I need insulation or like you know when people call out like an AC company like I think I need more freon well that maybe not the case maybe there's actually something else wrong but that's their first go to same thing with addicts everybody thinks I need more insulation I've gone to houses they have three feet of insulation they think they need more it's like no it's the it's the problem is the attic is too hot so it's all about attic temperat…
