Podcast 53 – Meghan & Harry support volunteers on Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
LA volunteer veterans with the US non-profit The Mission Continues were treated to lunch by Meghan and Harry, with the lunch catered by women from another of Harry and Meghan's favourite non-profits, Homeboy Industries. Per their website, The Mission Continues is for all veterans with a desire to continue their service to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. The non-profit works by connecting veterans with under-resourced communities, with veterans 'deployed' to volunteer alongside non-profit partners and community leaders. The Mission Continues organize what they call service platoons. These platoons not only allow veterans to connect with and to socialize with other veterans living close by, but collectively allow the veterans to connect with their communities and work to have an impact in what they describe as real and tangible ways.  *Taking place each third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is the only US federal holiday observed as a national day of service.* The day celebrates the life and legacy of the Civil Rights leader and exists to move the nation closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community” by encouraging all Americans to take the time to volunteer and invest in their communities. The Mission Continues are acknowledging the importance of The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service for the whole of the month of January. * They state that The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service is a day 'we salute those who fought, and continue to fight, for equality and justice both in and out of uniform.'* In was in light of these volunteering efforts that Meghan and Harry sent lunch to the LA service platoon just ahead of the federal holiday. The volunteers at The Mission Continues in LA posted a copy of the Thank You note that accompanied the lunch that Meghan and Harry donated on their social media sites. The volunteers responded to the note by saying that they felt truly honoured to have the support of Meghan and Harry. Sex Work w/ Irene Merrow - Ep. 167
According to Irene Merrow (Betches, Vice), sex work is a lot like comedy. And as someone who performs both, she would know! Learn all about the struggle of being a sex worker during a pandemic and the reality of trying to earn a living on OnlyFans. We also talk about the misguided policies that put sex workers out of work and in danger's way. Plus, you'll learn about Melody's new career ambitions that she shares for the first time. Will she join the ranks of funny queer ladies with a NSFW camera roll? Before we get to the sexy stuff, we gush about the new Netflix series featuring the most dykonic New Yorker that we can't get enough of. And, Carolyn checks in with Melody to make sure she doesn't risk getting red-pilled. Finally, we end with a listener question that might spawn ten related listener questions. But we read it anyway because we love our U-Haulers and want you to get out of your heads and into your beds. -Get extra content, Ad Free episodes, support the pod, and get to know other listeners by joining our Patreon community. Shameless Self Care
In this episode, Dr. Courtney Tracy discusses a topic known as Shameless Self-Care. If you’ve been feeling shameful because this year has finally taught you HOW to take care of yourself and others are upset about it, this episode may help you. If you want to learn more about shame itself and how Dr. Tracy feels it’s related to the concept and action of self-care, then this episode is for you!    We hope you enjoy this episode!   Please contact your emergency line if you are feeling lost or hopeless. Queerness, Christianity, Autism and Vaginismus with Andy Thornton
Welcome to the first Doing It episode of 2021! In this episode, Hannah is joined by Andy Thornton (they/he), who is a bigender illustrator, sex educator for the School of Sexuality Education, and Stonewall's Person of Faith role model. Andy discusses their experience being queer and non-binary as well as what being bigender means to him and how the way they identify relates to being a Christian. He and Hannah talk about the difference between tolerating and affirming Christian communities, social constructs of gender, and go on a tangent about language and sexual orientation. Finally, Hannah and Andy also discuss autism and vaginismus. It's a jam-packed episode this week! MORE ABOUT ANDY THORNTON I'm a Stonewall LGBTQ+ Person of Faith Role Model so I make noise about how God loves queers, and I mentor young people who are struggling with their Christian and queer identities and help them to embrace and love themselves! I'm also technically an author and illustrator as I published a trans children's book called Rebekah's Secret Grandpa. I've just graduated in Sociology at Bath after doing an art foundation at Oxford Brookes, and now I'm a freelance digital marketer and illustrator, working mainly with SSE (+ facilitating in schools) and Rixxo. My dissertation researched experiences of trans and bi Christians who are excluded from both queer and Christian spaces, with hour long interviews with 17 students who identified with one or both of those identities. I recently talked about my findings, and my experience as a queer Christian Quaker, on the podcast Blessed Are The Binary Breakers (which was split out into two episodes: 1 & 2), and about being a trans ally on the podcast Nobody Panic. - Instagram: - Art Instagram: - Portfolio: - School of Sexuality Education Instagram: 📝CHECK OUT THE SHOW NOTES 📝 ✨CONNECT WITH US ✨ 👀WANT EARLY & AD-FREE ACCESS TO EPISODES?👀 ✏️SIGN UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER✏️
