Big Kids: It's Time To Stop Feeling Guilty About Gaming
Welcome to This Glorious Mess Big Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is. Confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises. "My friends keep telling me how addictive gaming is for teens and that I should get them off the games now! .... Should I? And if I should, how the hell would I?" During the week, we received this listener dilemma and so for today's episode, we took it to an expert, Jocelyn Brewer, mother, teacher, writer, and psychologist with a specialisation in cyberpsychology. Jocelyn speaks to the balance between green time and screen time, when it's time to get off the games, and how to rationalise gaming in a world of worried gaming rhetoric.  CREDITS Hosts:Holly Wainwright & Andrew Daddo Guest:Jocelyn Brewer Producer: Mikayla Floriano and Emmeline Peterson CONTACT US Send your parenting dilemmas to tgm@mamamia.com.au Looking for a community of like-minded parents? How Fat Shaming By Doctors Is Putting Women's Lives At Risk
Going to see your doctor should never be a bad experience, but for many women the reality is that instead of getting the medical treatment they need, everything is blamed on their weight. Weight bias or weight stigma - aka fat shaming - should not be part of any medical professional's mindset, but hundreds of women got in touch to tell us their own scarring experience inside the examination room. The Quicky investigates why old stereotypes about weight still persist, how a doctor should talk to their patient if they are genuinely concerned, and what to do if you're not happy about how you've been treated. Life After Penguin Bloom
In 2013, Sam Bloom was on holidays in Thailand when the balcony she was standing on collapsed. Sam fell twenty feet and crashed onto the blue tiles below. Her three young sons saw the whole thing. Sam survived but for a while, she wished she hadn’t. Paralysed from the chest down, Sam and her family had to adjust to a new life. One without surfing, running and independence. But then an injured magpie, called Penguin, turned her life around.  She joins Mia to chat about her extraordinary tale of tragedy and resilience. The Boys Who Don’t Brunch With Girls
Everyone is talking about high school boys, after the head prefect at Cranbrook Senior School stood in front of a full assembly and told his mates they need to change their attitudes to women. But on the show today, we discuss whether or not single-sex education plays a role. Plus, Australia is going back to work. Sydney’s CBD is apparently now back at 65% of its pre-COVID capacity. Melbourne is moving quickly towards a 75% plan. Brisbane’s been back for a while… and we’ve definitely forgotten some of the things that happen in an office. And, our best and worst of the week. THE END BITS  Read the full Cranbrook speach here. Click here for the episode of This Glorious Mess with Daddo's mum. Recommendations: Check out Louis Theroux's podcast here. LOVE AIN'T ENOUGH PEOPLE
Happy Tuesday Lifers! This is our last episode for a few weeks because it is time for Laura to go and birth a small human! And we can't wait to see the little cherub once it is earth side!! ( We will also see if our recent psychic medium David was correct in his prediction of boy or girl) But we will be back before you know it talking all about Lauras birth story! Ok, so let's talk love! We are brought up being told that "Love is all you need", but the older we get we have to wonder, is it? Now don't get us wrong, you're looking at two of the biggest lovers this side of the border (no, literally, we went on a dating show to find love (successful for one, always too soon for the other) and started a relationships and love podcast because, well, we love love. But we are firm believers that love just isn't enough on its own. In our society and culture, most of us idealise and romanticise relationships and love. We see it as the be all and end all. We are raised with the idea that life involves growing up, getting a job and falling in love. Full stop.  It is portrayed in fairytales, books and movies as part of achieving success. The thing that makes everything better. That heals the pain and makes life easy. In the words of John Lennon, “Love is all we need” But is it!?  If we do walk around with our head in the clouds like Lennon did, we’re more likely to ignore the fundamental values that are crucial to the success and health of a relationship,  things such as honesty, trust, respect, humility, support and commitment towards the person we love. Jump on in as we deep dive into why we think relationships needs more than just those four little letters. If you're still one of those slippery little suckers that have been with us for a long time and haven't left a review, well, why you do us dirty like that!? Please hit subscribe, 5 stars, and share the love, because, well, we love love x Keep your questions rolling in for Ask Uncut and keep delivering those Accidentally Unfiltered's! SEE YOU SOON LOVERS WE MISS YOU ALREADY x

#160: Daft Punk, Will TV Confront COVID?, Obama & Springsteen
Two boomers have started a podcast, and we’re very interested in their home recording setup. Another duo have called it a day, and we reflect back on the soundtrack Daft Punk have given our lives. As big TV shows like Sex & the City, Succession, and Curb Your Enthusiasm go back into production, the question of COVID as a storyline is front of mind. Should TV reflect, or escape reality? And the reactions following “Framing Britney Spears” keep coming, as two women held under the spotlight as kids share their thoughts. Meanwhile Myf is filling the Succession hole with TV show Industry, while Zan is dreaming of beach escapes, reading Barbarian Days.   Show notes:   Slate on Obama & Springsteen’s podcast setup: https://slate.com/human-interest/2021/02/barack-obama-bruce-springsteen-podcast-setup.html Remembering the genius of Daft Punk: https://www.abc.net.au/doublej/music-reads/features/daft-punk-feature/13182412 Will TV confront COVID or avoid it?: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/feb/23/from-sex-and-the-city-to-succession-will-tv-confront-covid-or-ignore-it Tavi Gevinson: Britney Was Never In Control: https://www.thecut.com/2021/02/tavi-gevinson-britney-spears-was-never-in-control.html Industry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbM84z4XYgc&ab_channel=HBO Barbarian Days: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18693910-barbarian-days Email us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au   Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. Allen v Farrow | Test Kitchen cooks Gimlet | JWong’s Happy ‘Niu’ Year
BL + BW discuss Allen v. Farrow, a new HBO documentary series reinvestigating claims of child sexual abuse against director Woody Allen, who has continuously denied the accusations since they were raised in 1992, amidst an ugly and highly public breakup with Mia Farrow. The series was made with the cooperation of Dylan Farrow, who at age 7 accused Allen, her adoptive father, of abuse. We’re recapping new developments on Reply All’s Test Kitchen miniseries because what was meant to be an investigation of systemic racism at Bon Appetit has turned the spotlight on racism at Gimlet, the audio company that makes Reply All, with some pretty seismic fallout  And we’re wishing everyone a happy ‘niu’ year with comedian, ABC Everyday reporter and pun master Jennifer Wong, host of a pan-Asian Lunar New Year comedy show in Sydney.
