A Psychological View of Cindy James
Play • 52 min

[BONUS Episode] Meg & Amy are joined by psychologists Dr. Shiloh & Dr. Scott from “L.A. Not So Confidential” podcast, to examine the Cindy James case from a psychologists’ point of view.

In the 1980s Cindy James claimed she was the victim of over 100 acts of violence, including many forms of psychological and physical abuse by an unknown offender. However, even with a heavy police presence and help from a private investigator, her assailant could never be identified and eventually the police would suspect Cindy was doing this to herself. These attacks would culminated in Cindy’s death, but was it murder or suicide?

Ours guests discuss the psychology behind a range of behaviors from stalking, to hoaxing your own assaults.

Scorched Earth: Chris Watts and the Family Annihilator
In the summer of 2018, the whole country was riveted to the story of a young, pregnant mom named Shan’ann Watts. Shan’ann and her two little daughters, Bella and Cece, went missing from their comfortable Colorado home one morning. And as the story unfolded, it became increasingly obvious that Shan’ann’s husband Chris was responsible for their disappearance. As bad as we all thought it might be at the time, we had no idea how bad it really was. Turned out, Chris had murdered his wife and two daughters, in pretty much the most appalling way imaginable. The Chris Watts case has been a national obsession ever since, but Chris is by no means the only example of this kind of horror. There have been many others, and sadly, there will probably be many more. And when we start to unravel these cases, a chilling pattern begins to emerge. What could possibly motivate a person to murder their whole family? 88: Jacob Landin
New Mexico ranks among the worst states in the United States for child abuse deaths, with more than three per 100,000 children. From 2001 to 2016, more than 22 children in New Mexico ranging from 5 weeks old to 11-years-old have been killed as the result of physical and sexual abuse. While these statistics are extremely alarming, critics say that the numbers are severely underestimated. Among the issues within the state’s embattled child welfare agency are staffing problems as well as increasing and overwhelming caseloads. In 1987, nine-month-old Jacob Landin tragically passed away after becoming the victim of a child abuser. Over three decades later, his family are still fighting for justice. The Unknown Person
"...the Unknown Person considers himself to be the director of a play and Canadian authorities are but actors subject to his direction." In April of 2013, following an investigation into a "black money" scam, Toronto Police Services arrested 32-year-old Herman Emmanuel Fankem, a French citizen that had overstayed his visitor's visa and supposedly gotten caught up in an organized crime ring. However, as police began to dive into this man's backstory, they discovered that his passport was a total forgery. In the years since, this man has refused to divulge any information about himself to authorities, and appears to be fully uncooperative - if not combative. For that reason, his identity continues to remain a total mystery... ***Sponsored by: BetterHelp. Visit BetterHelp.com/Trace for 10% off your first month! BestFiends! Download Best Fiends FREE today on the Apple App Store or Google Play*** Thirty-five year old Kathryn Adam had made a decision: she was taking her sixteen year old daughter, leaving her husband and starting a new life. It wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to make it work. Then, just when things seemed to be falling into place the unimaginable happened. On April 29th, 1993, Kathryn left for work in the early morning hours. She never returned, vanishing along with her van. When her daughter reported her missing, police traced her steps to a storage unit where she kept supplies for her job. There they found a pool of blood and signs of a struggle. Not long after, her van was found abandoned a few miles away. It was caked with mud and there was blood inside. Was Kathryn Adam the victim of a random crime or did someone who knew her, and her schedule, lie in wait that early morning with a gun and murderous intent?
