Sailing the World With Sailing Ruby Rose
Nick Fabbri and Terysa Vanderloo of Sailing Ruby Rose are the first sailing couple to come on Badass Digital Nomads podcast! After leaving their careers as a dentist and a paramedic in London behind, Nick and Terysa set off to sail the world and never looked back. In this podcast, they share the details of their original plan and what they've learned from three years at sea. They talk about what happens after you've had enough sunsets and rum punches - and how they came to realize that they craved more connection, community, and mentally stimulating work to balance out their lifestyle of complete freedom. They also describe the many cool features of their boats, Ruby Rose and Ruby Rose 2, the highs and lows of living life on the sea, and the lessons they’ve learned while exploring the globe. They also talk about detoxing from social media, practicing mindfulness, and the courage it takes to step outside of your comfort zone, take risks, and learn new skills to support yourself from anywhere. If you’re interested in learning how to fund your travels while living on a boat full-time, you’ll certainly benefit from listening to this conversation with Nick and Terysa. As they say, life is about expressing yourself, sharing your story with the world, and connecting with others along the way! TOPICS DISCUSSED/WHAT YOU’LL LEARN: * Why Nick and Terysa were drawn to the sailing lifestyle. * How to overcome the lack of knowledge that holds people back from pursuing a nomadic lifestyle of full-time travel. * The benefits and challenges of living on a sailboat. * How society keeps us tethered to a certain work/life structure and what it takes to break free from the shackles of society. * The defining characteristics it takes to step outside of your comfort zone and take risks. * How to cope with experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness - even when you’re living a freedom lifestyle. * The importance of staying in a country long enough to establish a community or friend circle and learn the local culture. * What to do after the initial excitement of travel wears off. * How they learned how to make YouTube videos and how they come up with ideas for content. * Their candid thoughts on quality vs. quantity when it comes to content creation. * Why they transitioned from a monohull to a catamaran. * Where they’ve sailed so far and where they plan to travel next. * Which countries have the cheapest mobile internet. * The near-death experience Kristin had on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico. QUESTIONS ANSWERED: * Why did you decide to quit your jobs to travel? * How do you deal with being far away from friends and family? * How did you learn your creative skills, like writing and making videos? * How do you support yourselves financially? * How do you find fast enough WiFi to work remotely from a boat? * What advice would you give your past selves ten years ago? * And much more! Living on the Edge: How Netskope is Redefining Edge Security
When Netskope CEO and founder Sanjay Beri left his role with well-known Juniper Networks, he knew the internet and the way that we protected ourselves virtually was changing. The issue is that while Sanjay knew companies needed to leave their old security tactics behind, convincing members of the C-Suite that they needed to invest in new security measures is a very difficult task. So he showed them why. _“Without them telling us anything, we basically uncovered all their shadow IT, all their data that was being filtered not by malicious people, but by their own employees who just didn't know better,”_ he said. _“It's so apparent that people don't know where their data is and by showing them where their data is they realize how exposed they really are.”_ Sanjay is working to make security more proactive, less reactive, and more educational via his new venture with Netskope. On this episode of _IT Visionaries_, Sanjay discusses how companies can uplevel their security techniques, why SaaS applications are leaving your data unprotected and exposed in areas you might not realize, and why it’s time security companies start educating their peers on best practices. Main Takeaways * Lost in Translation: Every 10 to 15 years, the language of the internet changes. As that happens, your SaaS application must change with it. Software that is 15 years old, is unable to understand the new intricacies of the internet, which leaves companies and users vulnerable to various threats. * Living on the Edge: Your security needs to live where your employees reside — which recently is at the edge — so that no matter where employees work, your system is there to protect them. With so many employees working remotely in 2021, most of a company’s data and documents are living in the cloud, even if your company is not cloud-native, so necessary security needs to be put in place to protect it. * Here to Educate and Protect: Security teams have a responsibility to not only protect their end-users, but they also must be educating the end-users on why and how they are putting themselves at risk. The purpose of this educational philosophy is so that users can understand the risks once they have been briefed, and you can then take action to minimize risk. Hosting Remote Workers in Paradise
Remote work became a reality during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of us learned that you really can do business from just about anywhere. And now that companies like Twitter and Square are giving their teams the option to work from home even after we return to normalcy, remote employees are looking for a cool places travel and do their work. So, what can STR hosts do to capitalize on this opportunity? Robert Nunez is the vacation rental expert behind Work in Paradise, a STR villa on the island of Aruba that caters to remote workers. The Work in Paradise suites are minutes away from the beach, affording guests the opportunity to snorkel or enjoy a SeaBob adventure when their work day is done. Robert has been hosting on Airbnb since 2013, and in addition to his Aruban villa, he manages a portfolio of 76 units in Philadelphia, Miami, New York and New Jersey. On this episode of Get Paid for Your Pad, Robert joins me to explain how he came up with the idea for Work in Paradise, describing what Aruba has to offer remote workers and why he chose to open a new business during the pandemic. He offers insight on attracting remote workers on social media and providing both private and community workspaces (with reliable Wi-Fi) throughout the villa. Listen in for Robert’s advice to STR hosts on seeing the opportunity in a crisis, learning from other operators and challenging yourself to grow every day.
