Episode 74: Have you ever had a reason that stopped you from riding? Maybe you were injured? Maybe your horse was injured?  I find that when I look back there have been many reasons that I have missed time or gone 'off schedule' for a number of unplanned reasons. For some of us, this is happening now with the pandemic. When 'big' things happen in my life I try to see how they might remind me of smaller events that I have successfully navigated.  In this podcast, I give several ideas on how to handle

In this episode I speak with Dr Jenny Susser. Dr jenny is a sports psychologist and we talk about goals, failure, and confidence (among other things). She offers really great insights and gives many practical things you can implement right away. About the Guest: Dr. Jenny Susser has a doctoral degree in Clinical Health Psychology, specializing in Sport & Performance Psychology, Dr. Jenny is a New York State licensed psychologist, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and a member of the USOC Olympic Registry, the highest distinction a Sport Psychologist can obtain in the United States. A former high performing athlete, Dr. Jenny was a four-year All-American swimmer and then assistant coach at UCLA, Pac-10 Champion, swam on two national teams, and competed at the 1988 Olympic Trials. Dr. Jenny has worked with Division I collegiate teams from UCLA, USC, and Hofstra University, individual high school athletes of all levels, and athletes of all sports and ages, professional, international, Olympic, and amateur. Dr. Jenny was the 2012 USET Olympic Team Sport Psychologist for the United States Olympic Dressage Team in London. Dr. Jenny took applies the tools of high performance to the pressures of the business and corporate world as a keynote speaker and corporate trainer. What to Do in the Saddle Today? Planning Your Rides - Part 3: Developing or Training
Is every 30-minute ride starting to look and feel the same for you? Even the ones that you painstakingly chose exercises to work on? Annoying, isn’t it? Especially because actually ‘moving forward' in your riding is the reason you are riding! If this is the case, firstly, take heart that you’re not alone! Remaining focused throughout the day to day riding can really begin to wear on most well-intentioned riders after a while. And can even cause riding to begin dropping off your list of priorities…! This is why I suggest a 3 pronged approach to developing your weekly riding plan in a way that keeps things interesting and moving forward... A plan that will take you, clearly, on a path to your goals. Part 1 is to introduce regular intentional Fun to your riding. From there, Part 2 is working on deepening your Partnership with your horse. Which leads us to... Part 3 - Developing Doing the work. This is part that most riders are good at talking about, planning about, and even trying in the arena. You have probably found yourself on more than one occasion in the arena, exercise all mapped out in your head. And yet realizing, in absolute dismay, that it is just not coming together for you. The key is to begin making ‘the work’ actually work for you and your horse! Developing is another name for training. I personally believe that both horse and rider need training in order to move forward in their relationship. Often, most horse and rider combinations begin with one team member not being as advanced as the other. In this case, the more advanced or developed team members will help to ‘lift’ the other to their level. The schoolmaster horse or the more experienced rider. However, at some point, most horse and rider partnerships will reach a level where they are now matching in their skills and abilities. And this can be where so many begin to plateau. Read More... Fixing Grip Issues in Sport and Police Dogs
In this episode, Jerry Bradshaw discusses: * How the grip can vary depending on the sport you’re training for. * What it means to have a bad grip and why different ways bad grip may manifest. * Teaching your dog to be unsatisfied with any bite that is not at the back of the mouth. * Teaching the basic fundamentals from a young age, including social interaction and teaching the dog to work with other trainers. * Taking the proper time through progressions and not pushing too hard too fast.
