161: Change Your Mind
Play • 14 min
You are allowed to change your mind. In fact, this might be the most courageous, spiritually forming thing you could do. If we want to participate in true transformation, we may have to be willing to let go of what we’re good at, to move away from what we once knew for sure (or thought we knew for sure), and take a step into the mysterious shadow of unknowing. You might be surprised what you find there. Listen in.   Links + Resources From This Episode:

Whoever Has Ears Should Listen - Thursday, Mark 4:1-12
Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent. Long ago, Jesus said to his friends, "Come: follow me," and during Lent we are following Jesus all the way through the gospel of Mark. Today we are beginning Mark chapter 4: Jesus tells a story about a very careless farmer. 📖 Read: Mark 4:1-12 (NIRV) ❔Wonder: Can I picture myself hearing this story along with the rest of the crowd at the Sea of Galilee? Where am I? Am I sitting on some sand, warm beneath me? Or maybe I am trying to get comfortable on a rocky patch as I strain to hear Jesus? Does the breeze help me hear his voice, as he is speaking from the boat? Can I feel it on my face? Can I see Jesus, the boat softly rocking on the waves? In Jesus' time, farmers scattered their seeds in their fields by hand. They took handfuls of seed, and sprinkled them in the the soil they had plowed. I wonder why this farmer isn't being careful about where he scatters his seed? Can I imagine the seeds landing on the smooth path? How could they ever get covered up and grow? Can I see the seeds that land in the rocky places? How could their roots ever grow deep and strong in such broken and hard soil? Have I ever seen a plant that is trying to grow up surrounded by thorny bushes or vines? How could it ever get enough sunlight and space to grow? Now, can I picture a field full of wheat, grown up from tiny seeds but now big enough to feed hundreds of people? I wonder why Jesus said, "whoever has ears should listen"? I have ears, but do I always really listen with them? Are there any words, or pictures, or moments from this story that I want to ask God about right now? Are there any words, or pictures, or moments from this story that I want to take with me and hold close? 🙏🏾 Pray: Jesus of Nazareth, son of God: thank you that we have a book filled with your words and deed. Give us the wisdom and understanding that comes from your Holy Spirit, so that we can know you better and follow you all the days of our lives. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen. 💌 Keep in touch! Be The Bridge 218 - COVID-19: The Process After Losing a Loved One with Dr. Debbie Stevens
We’re back for a new season! In this episode of the Be the Bridge podcast, our Director of Programs and Innovation, Faitth Brooks, discusses the impacts of the pandemic with Debbie Stevens, a registered psychiatric nurse practitioner and close friend of our founder, Latasha Morrison, who lost her father to COVID-19 earlier this year. In this much-needed discussion, Faitth and Debbie acknowledge the legacy of medical racism in the U.S., talk about the hope they’ve had amidst the pandemic, and give listeners tips on loving others well through periods of grief. “Grief is just highly individualized. The way one person grieves is not necessarily the way that you may grieve.” –Debbie Stevens “It’s really easy to see what somebody else is going through, and then try to relate it back to something you’ve experienced. But the reality is, it’s a time for you to just sit and listen, lending a hand in whatever way possible, and being willing to serve.” –Faitth Brooks “Because of the legacy of the research and medical community really betraying the Black community—in terms of all the disgraceful things that the medical professional community has done to Black people and taken advantage of them—there’s a lot of distrust.” –Debbie Stevens “This is a time for us to think collectively and not individually about our wants, about what we desire, and to think about ‘How can I love my neighbor?’” –Faitth Brooks “I love my patients so I continue to show up for them, and they offer me hope because they haven’t given up. They continue to push forward, and even if they’re losing loved ones and family members, they continue to make their mental health a priority. So that offers me hope that I’m doing something that’s making a difference.” –Debbie Stevens LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE Podcast link: https://podlink.to/BeTheBridgeSocial handles/links: Instagram: @LatashaMorrisonTwitter: @LatashaMorrisonFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/LatashaMMorrison/Official Hashtag: #bethebridge --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
