Marvin Lee is an artist, but not in a traditional paintbrush wielding way. He calls himself a “body sculptor” his art is in his personal training, as well as in his music.
Welcome to Episode #60 of the YB2C Live! Podcast for Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners. Every week we discuss the entrepreneurial journey, including interviews with business owners of all sizes from Detroit and all over the world who share their stories to give you inspiration, motivation, and tips for overcoming challenges and achieving success for your business.
Pam has known Marvin since he was 9 years old! He has been a personal trainer since 2008, when he played for the Great Lakes Macos and earned the nickname “The X-Factor” which is where he got the name of his company: X-Factor Personal Fitness.
Most often, Marvin does his personal training in a more personalized setting, with smaller groups. He finds that these smaller group settings tend to be more effective. However, he does also offer a boot camp, which is usually consisting of 20-30 people.
He has found that not many people take his career seriously, so he tries his best to present himself as a professional entrepreneur. He studied other companies that were successful and were not successful in order to alter his company and follow the correct path to success.
Marvin attended University of Cincinnati. Black and Red, the colors of Marvin’s college, are his company’s colors. He has found his brand in the “X” and these colors. When people see that “X” they know he is serious.
Marvin has also learned quite a bit about music and composing through his studies. His mother, an opera singer, inspired him to want to sing. His other business is in music. He is inspired by all different kinds of music. The current record he is working on, called “Forever,” is R&B and Dance inspired.
Being an entrepreneur and running every aspect of his business is what Marvin sees as the biggest struggle in personal entrepreneurship. Self-marketing can be hard, but Marvin explores different social media in order to reach different demographics.
Marvin finds his biggest success in the lives that he has been able to touch through both of his companies.
