In today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at Ezekiel’s wife. The Bible only provides one sentence about her directly, but we can learn much more as we look at Ezekiel’s life and God’s advice to him concerning his wife. Theirs is a love story that withstood life’s trials. Regardless of whether they were together before they were taken captive or if they get together during captivity, their honeymoon years would have been fraught with difficulties. Imagine their fear as they were taken from their homeland and deported to a foreign wasteland, their struggles to survive, their concerns for the future. At 30-years-old Ezekiel received his prophetic call. Anyone who’s had a family member in the ministry knows the difficulties that come with ministry life. When your husband is a prophet warning the people of destruction and devastation in the days ahead if they don’t repent, well, it might affect your standing in the community. She would have likely felt a distance from the other women. At times it probably felt like the two of them against the world. But at least they had each other. At the end of a particularly difficult day of preaching to the masses, Ezekiel knew that he could come home to outstretched arms, a warm welcome, and a hot meal waiting for him. They gave each other strength to face the difficulties. Ezekiel was a young man when his wife died. One day she was the light of his life. Calorie Restriction Isn’t Necessary to Start Intermittent Fasting
Feel like calorie restriction that cuts you down to 500 calories a day is too extreme for you? Or that it would throw you back into that 80s diet mentality you had? There’s a lot of confusion about intermittent fasting and I’ve fielded more than a few questions since my intermittent fasting & exercise master class recently. No matter when you’re listening to this however, intermittent fasting isn’t going anywhere. So listen in, take a short walk with me and let me clear up a couple things. You read that right: to start intermittent fasting you do not need to “diet” in fact, calorie restriction with intermittent fasting … … may backfire for you midlife woman. Especially if you’re an active one. In a recent masterclass I shared components of intermittent fasting, styles if you will. Caloric restriction is one of them. But to start intermittent fasting – and see and feel results – you don’t have to or want to use all six components. My friend, Tricia Nelson (Founder of Heal Your Hunger), emotional eating expert, and I agree on this. There are a lot of us whose dysfunctional/disordered eating will be triggered by fasting that is restrictive. That said, the word restricted is used frequently in the same sentence with intermittent fasting. So, you’ve got to be careful in deciding: * Is it for you? * Is it for you right now? * What does your eating schedule look like now? * What’s your activity level right now? * What is your objective for starting IF? * Where’s the best place to start intermittent fasting? You also want to acknowledge what it is NOT: * It’s not a quick weight loss fix. * It’s not an escape from bloating, digestive issues, or no appetite or feelings of fullness. Those things should first be dealt with. And if you do have a history of anorexia, bulimia, exercise addiction, compulsive overeating, or binge-purge eating, then intermittent fasting may not now or ever be a good idea for you. But if it is a good next step, here’s 3 baby steps about how to start intermittent fasting. (listen to the show!) 1. 2. 3. I’ll give you a forth bonus step.. too! In a recent study- one I shared in that recent master class, just moving the eating window- the time of day subjects ate calories – without changing the amount of calories, resulted in greater weight loss success. When subjects shifted eating to a shorter window, and to an earlier window, they experienced more success… without calorie restriction. This is possible for anyone. It’s free. It’s painless. You’ve got nothing to lose. EP 285: How to Stop Worrying About the People You Love with Lara
This call is about letting go of worry and anxiety. Today’s caller, Lara, has a lot of worry and anxiety when it comes to her kids. She would like guidance on how to tame it and not have it impact her children. When we let worry get the best of us, not only are we raising cortisol levels in our bodies, which is bad for our health, but we are moving out of our resourced state where we have access to intellect and intuition. [For show notes, go here: Christinehassler.com/episode285] When we have a lot of worry and anxiety, it doesn’t do us any good. We become good at imagining worst-case scenarios but the heightened sense of anxiety puts us in the amygdala part of our brain — the fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. When we are in that part of our brain, we are not thinking clearly; we are not well resourced. When it comes to keeping ourselves safe and protecting ourselves, being prepared allows us to relax because we have a plan in place. We need to learn to channel the worry into something else — into being productive, being prepared, or deepening our spiritual practice. There is a certainty we get from physical world reality, control, and from seeing things. And, there is a certainty we get from faith. Unfortunately, for most of us, our certainty muscle is based on control. That muscle is much stronger than our faith muscle. Having faith in the universe, higher power, God, or whatever resonates with you, is key in letting go of anxiety and letting go of attachment. Because if there is not something bigger than you that you trust, you will always be addicted to control. You will feel like you have to have your hands on the steering wheel of life at all times. It will be hard to let go. This is why surrender is important. Surrender isn’t about giving up. It is about letting go.
