Using Body Language To Understand Yourself and Others Better w/ Tiff Lee
44 min

Did you know there are over 5000 body language moves, all of which tell a story about the person expressing the movement and the person interpreting it? By understanding how to read and use body language effectively, you can understand yourself better, build your confidence, and decode others' body language.

Key Takeaways

If You Want To Use Body Language To Show Up More Confidently, You Should:

  1. Take the time to set yourself up ‘inside the frame’ and enter any room with your head held high
  2. Always keep your hands visible and look out for signs of ‘tells’ from other peoples hands
  3. Stay away from a dark color palette and instead wear colors from the sunset such as light blue
  4. Believe in your confidence to send out subconscious confidence signals to you and those around you

Connecting To Your Body Through Body Language

Tiff Lee is dedicated to helping women be seen and heard in all areas of life with the life-changing information that is body language decoding. Once you hear what Tiff has to say about body language cues, how to use body language to improve your relationships or seek out when someone is lying, and ways that you can use body language to improve your confidence, you are never going to forget it.

What Can Body Language Do for You?

How you present yourself through your physical body language can drastically change how you show up in the world. Body language can help you step into your confidence (even if you aren’t actually feeling that cool) and provide a way for you to connect back into your body and what you are doing. Instead of being quiet and passive, proper body language and expression can help you command the attention you deserve with ease.

Decoding Others Through Body Language

Understanding body language can not only give you the awareness to appear more confident; it can also help you pick up on other people's cues. While most people think about body language decoding as something out of a CSI episode, it is really just a simple tactic to help you sense when something might not be quite right.

Small movements such as a shoulder shrug, hiding your hands, or an anxious ‘pacifier’ are all signs that you should tune into what someone else's body is trying to tell you. Body language's power lies in your ability to be aware of the body cues that make a person look anxious so that you can stop yourself from involuntarily showing up that way too.

Have you ever considered that your subconscious body language is hindering or helping your ability to show up as your true authentic self? How do you relate to body language and body connectivity? Share which piece of Tiff’s advice you are going to implement into your daily routine with me in the comments section of the episode page.

In This Episode

  • Simple, proactive ways to change the way you are seen and heard in all areas of life (12:46)
  • The most common giveaways to look out for to determine someone’s truthfulness or lack of truthfulness (17:13)
  • How to use your body language to increase your own confidence and decrease your self-doubt (22:16)
  • Specific hand gestures that make you look less confident and how to avoid making them (27:20)
  • Tips to show up at your next Zoom meeting in a more confident and secured way (29:39)

“We miss out on these things because we are so busy listening that we don’t see what is going on physically.” (8:50)

“These movements should be congruent with what you are saying verbally. So anytime the verbal doesn’t match the nonverbal, that is kind of your cue that something else may be going on.” (18:40)

“It is really hard to try to verbally tell the truth and then have your body language match that. Because our brains don’t like to do both, they can only do one or the other.” (19:45)

“When you are not feeling that confident, try to do those things. Because those small movements will register on a subconscious level to other people, and then, believe it or not, it’ll register for you too!” (26:10)

“When people think of body language, the first thing they tend to think about is the lies, and the negativity, and the criminal shows, and all of that. And while it is extremely valid in those areas, it's also so important in our everyday lives.” (35:56)

(230) Weight changes (Intuitive Eating Series)
Have you heard Intuitive Eating can help you lose weight if you do it right? Blech. NO. I know you've heard that yet it is sooooo off. That advice is steering you in the direction away from Food Peace. I want to help you get back on track. Listen to latest Love Food Podcast for insight. I want to support Black podcasters get the word out about their fat positive show. Send details to Dear Food: After a lifetime of eating, bingeing, and restricting, I finally felt like I needed to shift the way we exist in the world together. I've loved you, feared you, needed you, and abused you. We were in need of couples therapy. Luckily, I found a great podcast that was all about you! After binge listening to the Love Food Podcast, I was inspired to explore intuitive eating. For the last month, I've immersed myself into the intuitive eating/body positive culture by reading and investigating different books, blogs, etc. What I learned felt right, and I started to implement the tenets of intuitive eating. We had a great two week honeymoon, where I wasn't anxious about dining out and I allowed myself to eat what I truly craved. I was also vigilant about stopping before I got too full. It was pretty amazing to learn how little I actually needed to feel satisfied. Things were going great until I did something stupid. I stepped on the scale. Yes, I know the experts said you can't diet and practice intuitive eating at the same time. But, my old compulsion got the best of me. So I weighed myself and it turns out I lost a few pounds. Almost effortlessly. And that's where I derailed. Since finding out I've lost some weight, I've been bingeing and restricting again! It's the same thing I would do when I used to diet. Lose a little, and then eat my way back up the scale. What am I doing??? I can't seem to find the intuitive path again. Every day I try, but end up bingeing by the end of the day. How did I get here again? I was feeling so empowered and free just a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm feeling defeated and fat all over again. I somehow turned intuitive eating into another diet gone wrong. Food, I want to get us on the right path again but I'm not sure how. What you need to know about pelvic floor health (and no it’s not just for those that are postpartum) with Caitlin Day (The Vagina Physio)
When you hear the words ‘pelvic floor dysfunction’ you probably think of women post-birth, working on getting their pelvic floor back to where it was before their little bub arrived. But if you think that’s as far as it goes, boooooooy are you missing the bigger picture! Pelvic floor dysfunction doesn’t just happen to women after birth and it’s never too early or late to start working on your pelvic floor health. Working on your pelvic floor could help you get relief from bowel issues, help with endometriosis symptoms, help those awkward moments when you pee a little bit by accident (if you know you know), reduce painful sex and so much more. Now I’m not a pelvic floor specialist, which is why I brought the wonderful Caitlin Day onto the podcast today to give us the DL on all things pelvic floor! Caitlin is a fellow kiwi and is just as passionate as I am about women’s health and is a highly skilled physiotherapist with a specialisation in pelvic floor physiotherapy - her other interests are sexual pain rehabilitation, post gynaecological surgery rehabilitation, helping women returning to sport after childbirth, chronic pain management such as endometriosis (which a lot of women with PCOS also have) and helping with bowel problems such as fecal incontinence or constipation. We talk all about what is actually classed as the pelvic floor, what can happen if you don't have a strong enough pelvic floor, what happens to your pelvic floor during pregnancy and postnatally, what you can actually do about it and a whoooole lot more. It's never too late to be working on your pelvic floor - whether you're trying to get pregnant, postpartum or just wanting to improve your health generally. This is the podcast you didn't know that you needed to hear - so pop in your headphones, go for a walk and listen to this awesome chat I had with Caitlin, I assure you you’ll learn a whole lot more than you’ve probably ever learned about the pelvic floor! *This episode is for you if:* * You’re pregnant * You have Endometriosis * You experience painful sex and/or periods * You are trying to conceive * You have insulin resistance * Weight gain is one of your symptoms * You’ve already given birth * You always need to pee or you feel like you get light bladder leakage often *Some things we cover in this episode:* * What actually is the pelvic floor? Why is it so important? * How weight can impact your pelvic floor * Pregnancy and postpartum - what to expect when it comes to your pelvic floor * Postpartum pelvic WOF * How the pelvic floor can be damaged (and what you can do about it) * Getting back into exercise after giving birth * Overactive bladder, PCOS and the pelvic floor * Insulin and the pelvic muscles *Resources and References:* * Caitlin’s Instagram (@thevaginaphysio) * Caitlin’s practice (Unity Studios) * Unity Studios Instagram * My Book: Getting Pregnant with PCOS *Links to our programs:* * The PCOS Protocol * Eggducated
