We are back together this episode... well, sort of (thanks to physical distancing!). Money talks glimmers, and why we should be able to identify those as easily as we identify triggers. Nikeeta is still essential, but she was already that to us before coronavirus! She drops another hit jingle and tells us about a transformative book in her life. We celebrate AfroBrazilian vocalist Liniker Barros as QueerWOC of the week and discuss why we're over dating apps. Triggers have become part of our everyday vocabulary as trauma becomes more of a social norm to speak about, but the other side of that polyvagal theory hasnt gotten nearly enough shine - glimmers. Glimmers are essentially the opposite of triggers! If a trigger brings us into a survival state, and is also known as a cue of danger,, glimmers are what bring us back into our window of tolerance and safety Glimmers are any experience, person, place, or resource that creates the possibility of safe connection with ourselves, others, or the environment Here are some guiding questions to begin to identify Glimmers: What people, places, feelings, smells, sensations glimmer me back into feeling safe and connected? What brings up happy memories for me? Is there a smell, book, or activity that instantly reminds me of good days? What are my safety survival responses? Meaning when I have completely had it, what to i do/where do i go/who do i run to? What glimmers are most effective when I am in a survival state? Which glimmers bring me back to center from fight? Flight? Freeze? What do my different states feel like in my body? How do I know a glimmer is kicking in and I feel safe? What does a glimmer feel like, what sensations does it bring up, what feelings? Share your glimmers with us!
