5G Demystified: Will 5G Kill Wi-Fi?
We use Wi-Fi at home because it offers speeds better than our LTE phones get. But if 5G will provide speeds 10 times better than LTE, will that mean we no longer need Wi-Fi at home? Will public Wi-Fi become as antiquated as internet cafes? 5G Demystified: Broadband Is Infrastructure?
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed a major flaw in global infrastructure when it turned out that millions (if not billions) of people were unable to work or attend school from home due to lack of reliable connections to the internet. With the digital divide a concern even in "first world" countries, internet access has taken its place alongside roads, bridges and utilities as a new kind of infrastructure in the purview of governments. In this IEEE panel discussion, experts will discuss the impact that this shift in thinking is having on local governments, property values, our visual environment, and on the rural communities that struggle to obtain broadband access.

Edge Platforms & Services Evolving Into 2030
Following on from the podcast on The Edge Ecosystem From Now Through 2030, posted in March 2021, four edge subject matter experts now discuss Edge Automation Platform and Edge Service Platform frameworks. Edge Service includes the necessary Platform and Applications that are distributed and delivered to consumers and enterprises. So, this podcast includes envisioning use cases fertilized by current and coming network generations. And, the impact of a heterogeneous infrastructure on edge platforms and services is discussed as well as a unified programming model to simplify development across diverse architectures. Challenges at the edge are anticipated, such as networking topologies, scalability, standardization, and security at the edge, especially at the virtual level. These are the building blocks for the era of domain specific services and futuristic edge native solutions.

The Edge Ecosystem From Now Through 2030
Four subject matter experts on edge computing gathered to discuss the coming decade of expected developments for the edge ecosystem as enabled by current and future network generations. Contemporary and emerging use cases and evolving technologies are discussed as well as critical differentiators for Edge Platforms and Services. Massive MIMO’s Path Ahead: Sky High Scalability, Intelligent Control, and AI/ML
Trusty old MIMO is becoming Massive MIMO and is expected to continue into the future two decades of networking, but it will have to rise to many challenges. Massive MIMO must evolve to interwork with thousands of antenna elements while managing power in Internet of Things applications, evolving hardware, ever lower latency, emerging technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence, and intelligence at the edge, while security is an ever-present concern. What is entailed as it is determined whether technology can meet the envisioned future and what does the path ahead involve? Known technology gaps are in the areas of efficient receiver architecture, power efficiency, and CMOS. Three Massive MIMO subject matter experts discuss the challenges, and also the path to solutions in beamforming algorithms, resource management, computationally efficient channel estimation approaches, simultaneous multiple transmit/receive beams, and new deep learning techniques.

6 GHz Spectrum and the Future of 5G Connectivity -- Part 1: The Changing Spectrum Landscape
One of the key enablers for future innovation and deployment of 5G technology is the availability of wireless spectrum to support a wide range of new bandwidth-intensive services. The recent change in spectrum regulation for the 6 GHz frequency band in the US has become a potential game changer with respect to the future of 5G given the opportunities for new operations these frequencies can support. At the same time, with opportunities there are risks, including coexistence issues with other wireless communication networks hoping to use this spectrum, as well as legacy radio applications such as radio astronomy, satellite communications, and remote sensing/radar. International Network Generations Roadmap - Executive Overview
The International Network Generations Roadmap (INGR) is stimulating an industry-wide dialogue to address the many facets and challenges of the development and deployment of 5G in a well-coordinated and comprehensive manner, while also looking beyond 5G. Future network technologies (5G, 6G, etc.) are expected to enable fundamentally new applications that will transform the way humanity lives, works, and engages with its environment. The INGR, created by experts across industry, government, and academia, helps guide operators, regulators, manufacturers, researchers, and others involved in developing new communication technology ecosystems by laying out a technology roadmap with 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year horizons.

Do We Still Need the FCC? DARPA's Spectrum Collaboration Challenge
In this episode, Paul Tilghman, DARPA program manager, speaks to the three-year-long Spectrum Collaboration Challenge that attempts to answer the question, Do we still need the FCC? DARPA, the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, gamified a system to handle Dynamic Spectrum Sharing through the creation of SDN radios using the power of artificial intelligence and collaborative autonomy to navigate, share and optimize wireless spectrum in a testbed called Colosseum, and invited the world to compete. The live championship event takes place on 23 October at Mobile World Congress LA, and will be live-streamed.
