Climate change is becoming a problem you can taste | Amanda Little
12 min
Our food systems have not been designed to adapt to major disruptions like climate change, says environmental journalist Amanda Little. In this eye-opening talk, she shows how the climate crisis could devastate our food supply -- and introduces us to the farmers, entrepreneurs and engineers who are radically rethinking what we grow and how we eat, combining traditional agriculture with state-of-the-art technology to create a robust, resilient and sustainable food future.

1. A large number of farmers are still camping around the Delhi border despite a ground being allocated to them in the capital's outskirts to hold their protest against the farm laws that they want repealed. The protesters - who have braved tear gas, water cannons and lathi-charge during their agitation - have said they have enough essentials to continue their protests for up to six months. At least three highways that lead to Delhi remain blocked amid the protests. 2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting India's top vaccine hubs today to personally review the development of coronavirus vaccine and the manufacturing process. The visit, PM Modi's office said, was meant to help him get a "first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India's endeavour to vaccinate its citizens". PM Modi began his three-city vaccine tour with a visit to pharma major Zydus Cadila's plant in Gujarat. Wearing a PPE kit, PM Modi reviewed the vaccine development process at the Zydus Cadila research centre in Changodar industrial area, over 20 km from Ahmedabad. 3. Jammu and Kashmir today recorded 22.12 per cent voting till 11 am in the first phase of District Development Council (DDC) polls, the first since the former state was reorganised as a Union Territory last year. Due to the cold weather, the turnout was low as voting began at 7 am, officials said. However, improved as the temperature rose through the day, officials said. By late morning, long queues could be seen outside polling booths despite the cold conditions, ANI reported. 4. Iran said one of its most prominent nuclear scientists was assassinated on Friday in an attack on his car outside Tehran that it accused arch foe Israel of being behind. The scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was "seriously wounded" when assailants targeted his car before being engaged in a gunfight with his security team, Iran's defence ministry said in a statement.

584: Farmers Enter Delhi With Their Protest, Will The Centre Yield?
It seems that the Centre is ready for talks as thousands of farmers from Punjab marched into Delhi against the three Central farm laws, on 27 November. Although the Centre hasn't formally commented, or reached out to farmer organisations, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal tweeted, “The central government is always ready for talks.” After a few tense days at the Delhi-NCR border, the Delhi police spokesperson Aish Singhal announced in the late afternoon of 27 November that the protesting farmers will be allowed to hold their protest at the Nirankari Samagam Ground in North-West Delhi. In the past couple of days, over 30 farmer bodies including several thousands of women have been attempting to stream into Delhi through different routes with their trucks and trolleys carrying rations and other essentials determined to hold the protest for as long as it takes to get the government's attention. They have demanded for the three new farm laws to be scrapped and MSP be legalised. But before the farmers were let in, barricades, barbed wires, water cannon and tear gas shells were used to deter them from entering the capital. From Tikri to Singhu to Faridabad to Kalindi Kunj — all borders were sealed off. Hundreds of police personnel from the RAF, CRPF and the Delhi Police were deployed and what was supposed to be a peaceful march to the capital got violent in the outskirts of Delhi as water cannons and tear gas shells were countered with stone pelting. As the farmers carry on with their protest, in this podcast we'll bring you farmer voices from ground zero. Tune in!
