SUPER MARIO BROS. (1993) Commentary Track
Nothing is impossible, listeners. Improbable? Unlikely? Sure, but never impossible. If you need any more proof, just look at the new Nintendo movie that hit theaters this week, something fans thought they'd never see again after the subject of this BOP n' A Tragedy audio commentary, 1993's Super Mario Bros! You're heard the jokes, the brutal behind-the-scenes stories, and the lamentations of Leguizamo, but the BOP Crew (okay, mostly Jamie) aren't content with leaving the first video game movie on the scrapheap. Between the eight (!) scripts that slowly mutated a fantasy comedy into a cyberpunk thriller-- then tried to walk it back at the last minute, the truly stellar makeup and animatronic work, a cast no version of this movie deserved, and an unforgettable cityscape that rivals the best sci-fi worlds of the 90's, there's plenty more to this bob-omb than you've been led to believe, and if Cody can avoid dying from fungal poisoning before the end of the commentary, you might hear it all! AVENGERS: ENDGAME
We're in the spoilers game now. But besides "whatever it takes," what do we actually do now in a post-Endgame world? Disney+ shows? Mysterio's Big Adventure? A sequel to The Incredible Hulk? No, the exchange of souls needed for that one would be too great. Ten years have taken us from "We're Iron Mongers, Tony," to "The Staff of The Living Tribunal," from Whiplash's bird, to Killmonger's Oscar nomination, and every stunt-casting in-between. While we mourn the loss of being really, really hyped for Endgame, we also go over what we loved about this ending of a cinematic era (that isn't actually ending), it's surprisingly subtle adaptations of comic scenes famous and obscure, the return to the indie sensibilities that once defined Marvel Studios, how it's themes capture and distill the profound message of Marvel both in print and in film, and, of course, The Red Skull. There once were three podcasters who took it upon themselves to record a commentary track for every film in a very beloved series. Nearing the end of their Wizarding journey, they found the final adaptation had been split in two! Being podcasters with little to no lives outside their hobby, though, they simply waved off any prior obligations and sat down for the first of their final two Potter BOP ‘n A Movie tracks! Now, you mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darlings. Unfortunately for us, and to a degree, unfortunately for you, as well, we dreamed big. Way, way too big. Welcome to the third level down. The grand experiment in Inception commentating continues, in which we annually provide commentary for the previous year's commentary. My head is spinning. This year, Saito has bled out, but we soldier on without him... and Cody's brought alcohol. So, for once, having to commentary a commentary is the least troublesome thing we must endure. In what might be BOP's most surreal recording yet, the Crew descends into madness and self-reflection as they have nothing left to talk about in regards to the film Inception, but are, for some reason, still doing this stupid tradition just for the joke of it.
